Fruit of the Spirit

To be spiritually mature is to both grow and show the fruit of the Spirit in our lives: the love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, fauthfulness, gentleness and self control listed in Galatians 5:22,23. In these studies we see the fruit illustrated from the bible – the joy of the disciples at seeing their risen Lord; the faithfilness of Jehoshaphat when facing a huge enemy army; the self control of David in resisting revenge on Saul. Who can belong to a Home Group?

Anyone! Home Groups are an excellent way to get to know a smaller group of people well and to develop our Christian faith together in a more relaxed atmosphere. Groups are of mixed age and are for those who are journeying, not those who have arrived.

Previous Studies

We studied the gospel of John.
What did Jesus really say? What would he do today?
If we are to be followers of Jesus, people whose lives demonstrate his love and power in a way that will bring hope and healing to our world, then we need to know who Jesus is; what he was like; what he said.
We need to know what kind of life he calls us to lead.

In 2007 up to Easter, some groups continued the Lords Prayer and others chose their own topics

September to December 2006 ‘THE LORD’S PRAYER’

Although we all agree that prayer is vitally important, a wonderful privilege and occasionally a wonderful joy, it is also one of the most difficult and challenging areas of Christian living. We studied the Lord’s Prayer as a way of learning more about prayer and how to pray.

April to July2006 ‘ BUILDING A COMMUNITY IN CHRIST’
Studies in Paul's Letters to the church in Ephesus
.
We looked at various aspects of doctrine, faith and life practice, seeking to understanding more of what God has done through Christ, and what we need to do as a consequence towards creating a new society which stands out in bright relief from the sombre background of the old world.

January to Lent 2006 ‘ LIFE BALANCE’ How in the midst of the pressures and busy-ness of 21st century life do we get the right balance between rest, work and play? Participants say this has been really helpful.

In autumn 2005 our topic was 'The Bible Overview', designed to give an understanding of the Bible as a whole. As with a jigsaw, it is hard to understand any one part without a grasp of the big picture.
The course was a guided tour - a map was provided, the route explained, and landmarks pointed out.

Spring 2005 ‘Lost for Words’. At its heart is the conviction that the most important people in evangelism are people like us, people who often feel lost for words when invited to say something about our faith.

In the first months of 2005 we considered Lessons in Trust from Isaiah.
A paraphrase of Isaiah 28:16 is “I will trust and not flap.” This text comes from a time of major international crisis for the small kingdom of Judah , tottering on edge of the Western Asian world in the 8 th century before Christ and on the brink of being invaded by the superpower of the day, Assyria .
