    Photo Competition

'A lot of thought has gone into all the entries with much skill, style and some technically very good photographs. For me, the mark of a good photograph is one that creates an emotional response and makes you feel as if you want to be there. It was a tough judging decision. Congradulations to all the entrants and winners!' - Tim Keeler - Judge

Winner (Under 16): Dorset ponies by Matthew Ridsdill-Smith
Evoking the subtlety of a summer in Dorset, you can almost see the wind rustling through the grass. It’s an emotionally charged
picture that’s very striking with a good composition. Congratulations!

2nd (Under 16): Sunset in Bosham by Annabel Savage
A striking composition with the silhouetted tree in the foreground. The meander of the river reflects the sun and gives the picture depth as
well as colour.

Winner: Beggar and oranges in Marrakech by Jonathan Causer
This photograph is compositionally exciting, not conventional and evokes a strong emotional response. The good use of light and shadow with
subtle colour allows the viewer to feel the warmth of summer and you can even start to tell a story around it. A quirky entry with a tactile
wall. Congratulations!

2nd: Sparkling stones in a Cornish pool by Jason Dalrymple
This entry is a really good composition with great use of light; just the right amount to create the sparkle in the summer beach
pool. You can feel yourself wanting to lean forward and pick up a stone to see what’s underneath.

3rd: Indian ladies by Louise Poole
A really human picture with a lot of action and emotion in the foreground as well as behind and beside the ladies. And what
fun they are having. A charming picture with vivid colour.

4th: Greek island nightscape by Peter Lowe
What great impact this photograph has. Excellent composition draws the eye into it – you want to know what’s going on in the bustling streets
and homes. The geometric patterns are pleasing to the eye with subtle colour as well as splashes of colour here and there. There’s more to
this photograph than meets the eye.

5th: Spanish windmill by Simon Lee
A lovely composition with a feeling of solitude, stillness and
serenity. What tranquillity this charming photograph evokes.
